The 22th of January, it’s a special day in Centre-Loire vineyards. It is Saint Vincent’s celebration!
But who is Saint Vincent?
Deacon and martyr of Saragossa (Spain) in the 4th century, he is the patron saint of winegrowers, protector of the workers of the vineyard. According to the legend, he was tortured on a press wheel. The legend is also associated with the very name of Vincent: "vin" designating the fruit of the vine and "cent" for the blood.
Every year, the different villages, through the Brotherhoods of Saint Vincent, pay tribute to him. The tradition wants that in each commune and each year, the wine growers pass on to each other in turn the "Bâton" of Saint Vincent.
Celebrations, wine tastings and festivities beat vignerons’ villages. The vineyard of Menetou-Salon celebrates Saint Paul’s Day the 25th of January.
